Young Avengers: Wiccan and Speed
I really didn't have high expectations for this one. Patriot's issue was okay, considering he's a character I don't really care much about. Hulkling's was really disappointing. There was so much stuff they needed to be covering, like, say where he was living now that the woman who raised him is dead or why Tony Stark isn't after him for being part Skrull.
But I digress. I was scared that Wiccan and Speed's issue would suck, but it, well, didn't. The art was pretty good, Billy's narration was excellent, and it actually addressed something that they were concerned about in the earlier storyline. The dialogue was very cute and it actually fit all of the character's personalities. There was some cute flirty conversation between Teddy and Billy, some sibling style banter between Billy and Tommy, and a funny inner monologue when the comic's villain is being confronted.
New Exiles #3
I was surprised how enjoyable this series is without the old Exiles. This issue continues Rogue's weird flirt-y thing with the oddly Southern golden skinned blonde haired sub-mariner. She meets his parents (weird twist) and siblings, while Psylocke and Sabertooth lock lips and deal with being pretty much owned by this crazy red haired vampire woman. It's the kind of Exiles issue that I love, the kind were the totally screw with almost everything in the Marvel universe and I love the art. Whole heartedly recommended.
Young X-men
AVIOD! This is just like the (new) New X-men, except that all of the fun characters are dead or gone and they've replaced them with unlikable people. Rockslide only works in group with people who are nice (or at least tolerable.) I like Wolf Cub, but here he's become some sort of weird Wolverine clone. (Not a cool one, like X-23.) I like Dust, but she needs to paired with a more aggressive girl to fit with the team. I like Blindfold, but...
...um...
...it's just really weirdly written. These aren't the characters who should be forming a team. And it doesn't make sense that they would be, since Cyclops was very firm about there no longer being an X-men team like, last issue of X-men: Divided we fall. Nice try, Marvel, but no.
Wolverine: First Class
I don't like Wolverine. I liked him back in the Claremont era, but current, "I'm in every super team ever and I'm awesome and I'm the Batman of Marvel universe except more badass" Wolverine is just stupid to me. That being said, despite the name, Wolverine: First Class rocks. It's good, old fashioned Wolverine and Kitty Pryde going out, kicking butt and arguing with each other. Maybe the reason I like it so much is because it's about the two of hem instead of just Wolverine. Solid writing, better art, and an all together good read.
Secret Invasion
I didn't pick up this after House of M, Civil War, and World War Hulk (did they ever leave New York in World War Hulk?), I'm just really tired of company-wide crossovers. You hear me Marvel? Continuity is much easier to keep track of when everyone stays in their own books!
Conversation #1
This is my favorite indie comic. (It is also fairly old. 2004.) Done by James Kochalka and Craig Thompson, the whole thing is just a conversation about art and comics. And it is awesome. Seriously. The art is cute, but the writing is brilliant. Read this if you get the chance!
(The sequel replaces Craig with someone else. It is much less enjoyable.)
Well, that's it for now and...
...and...
Oops. I didn't review any DC comics. Ah, well. Next time.
